Ben Greenfield and Jerry Cohen met in 7th grade and founded their company, Ben & Jerry's, in Burlington, Vermont in 1978. The company makes ice cream from whole foods which are rBGH free. The production process minimizes waste, uses recyclable packaging, and supports sustainable agriculture. Ben & Jerry's formed the Dairy Stewardship Alliance in partnership with the University of Vermont.

Ben and Jerry's Foundation distributes small grants to local non-profits that are chosen by employees.
