The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is an organization that provides market research and networking services for electronics companies that gain membership. Over 2,200 technology companies are members of CEA.

The organization provides extensive market research for member companies, analyzing consumer and technology trends. They coordinate several electronics-related events throughout the year, including the Mark of Excellence Awards ceremony, where companies are honored for technology advancements and green technology initiatives.

Each January, CEA organizes and promotes the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), an international tradeshow featuring major technology and electronics innovators. The annual event allows industry insiders and consumers to test new products and preview upcoming breakthrough technologies. Products originally introduced at CES include the CD Player, Nintendo Entertainment System, DVD technology, high-definition telvision and the Microsoft Xbox.

Notable Eco Activity

CES events in the 21st century have been a viable showcase for green, energy-saving products. At the 2006 show, Philips unveiled a low-energy rollable display that only needs power during update, and the 2008 show featured a solar-powered laptop charger. Other green technologies from recent CES events include a solar toy builder and wind-powered mobile-charging tent.

CEA has also initiated a Greener Gadgets Conference to promote environmentally progressive technologies to their member companies and throughout the electronics industry. The conference focuses on advances in alternative energy for products and the efficiency of e-waste recycling.
