Founded in 1993 by Ken Cook and Richard Wiles, Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a non-profit environmental program which uses "the power of public information to protect public health and the environment."
The EWG has two main goals that they continually work towards. Through the use of research, they hope to protect the most vulnerable of us—children, babies, and fetuses—from all the health problems which are created by toxic contaminates. Furthermore, they hope to replace federal policies that hurt the environment with policies that will further aid in conserving what we have. They focus on three main issues: toxic chemicals and human health, farming and agricultural subsidies, and public lands and natural resources. Approximately 52% of their resources goes into the toxic chemicals and human health category.
Their sister organization, the EWG Action Fund, was founded in 2002. The organization is used as an advocate for protective health and subsidy-shifting policies on Capitol Hill.
