SeaWeb is communications-based nonprofit organization that uses social marketing to advance ocean conservation. Its goal is to raise public awareness in order to advance science-based solutions and mobilize decision-makers worldwide about ocean conservation.

Jane Lubchenco, nominated by President Obama to head the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is a former board member of SeaWeb and a founding principal of one of SeaWeb's partners, the Communication Partnership for Science and the Sea. 

Headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland, SeaWeb has regional offices in Paris, London, Papau, New Guinea and the Fiji Islands. It is not affiliated with any political party, interest group or business.

Notable Eco Activity

SeaWeb's programs bring together scientists, members of the media, policymakers and leaders from the seafood industry to impact thousands of others in its efforts to conserve healthy oceans.

  • 1999 - Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America for its Caviar Emptor campaign. 
  • 2004 - Annual conservation Award from the New York Aquarium.
  • 2004 - Two Wilver Rich Shields Awards from the Council on Foundations for 2003 Caviar Emptor and the "Less than One" campaign promoting the need for an increase of marine protected areas.
