The Earth is blanketed by a layer of Air referred to as atmosphere . Air is composed of a mixture of gases, 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen with traces of water vapor, carbon dioxide, argon, and various other components. This buffer of air makes life on earth possible by protecting the earth’s surface from the effects of the sun.
Air pollution is a worldwide concern. Air quality is of great concern in cities and suburbs in particular because of the lack of a concentration of trees. Trees remove many pollutants from the atmosphere, including nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO), and particulate matter of ten microns or less (PM10). Groups such as the Clean Air Council, a not for profit environmental organization, work to ensure the quality and sustainability of clean air in our ecosystem. It is important to safeguard the earth's air quality and protect our planet from the effects of greenhouse gasses and global warming.
The quality of air within the home is sometimes worse than the air outside due to lack of proper ventilation and unhealthy building materials, therefore it is important to monitor and make environmentally careful choices thereby safeguarding respiratory health.
