Conservation

Conservation is the act or process of conserving or restoring. It involves the protection and management of nature and natural resources, including water, soil, forest, wetlands, coastal areas and all forms of wildlife. Conservation efforts come in many shapes and sizes. One size does not fit all.

Large scale privately funded organizations such as World Wildlife Fund and Nature Conservancy work from the top down, having greater manpower and resources. Individuals and smaller community based initiatives, work from the bottom up. Governmental organizations like the USDA Forest Service educate individuals and groups to work in partnership and evolve solutions for the needs of conservation and to maintain biodiversity and balance at all levels. Groups like Project Wild work with educators, K through 12, and their students to raise conservation awareness and address the need for continuing generations of responsible environmentally minded citizens.

No matter the size of the effort, true conservation saves not only parts and parcels but entire ecosystems including the people within it. Sustainable conservation seeks to enable communities to thrive while maintaining responsible environmental stewardship.
