Eco-friendly

Eco-friendly is a term used to describe items and activities that have little or no negative effect on the environment. Environmentally friendly and nature friendly are generally interchangeable terms. Ecology is a branch of science that is concerned with mapping the relationships between organisms and their environments. It is also defined as a study of the detrimental effects of modern civilization on the environment, the goal of which is to promote prevention or  reversal by means of conservation. Eco-friendly therefore can be used to describe anything that is good for the environment by way of sustainable, recyclable, biodegradable, renewable and organic goods and services.

To make consumers aware, eco-friendly items and services are often marked with eco-labeling. There is however no single international standard for this concept and therefore no regulation of it’s use. Great inroads have been made in securing international eco-friendly standards within certain industries, for example The Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is a globally uniform testing and certification system for Textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production. In the Building industry LEED certification is a third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Concerned environmentalists refer to unregulated and misleading eco-friendly labeling on products as “greenwashing”. Consumer Reports Greener Choices website provides a service which can help find out what the labels on your favorite products really mean.

Many people find joy and sense of accomplishment in working around their home and in their garden, fixing things up and using their hands to get things done. There are many ways on how we can contribute on making our environment and this world a beautiful place to live in, which includes gardening, and recycling. The home garden is a time honored tradition that many people have forgotten. Growing your own food in a home garden or greenhouse means satisfaction of a tangible result of your own labor, not to mention the fewer things you have to buy from the grocery, the less likely you will need a short term loan for food. However, you should first consider the steps in gardening: Plan what you want to grow, plot and design your soil bed, and put plenty of compost under your growing soil. Find out what plants grow best in your area, and get some decent gardening tools. It could be worth an online cash advance to start your own garden.

The trend for eco-friendly/green products in building as well as consumer products is a growing industry. As someone familiar with LEED standards and certifications i can see large growth potential for anyone looking to get into this industry. I agree with @Micaela H in that many people are interested in making our environment a better place.
