Global warming

The earth is warming. It has warmed about 1.4º F in the last 100 years. The rate of change is increasing and is projected to go up another 7º by end of this century. The warming will bring climate change. In some areas there will be more rain. Extreme weather can be expected, including more powerful and frequent storms. Tropical areas will grow; and, with the growth, drought is expected. Ice will melt and sea levels will rise. Some of these effects can already be seen in the retreat of glaciers at the poles and on the highest mountains.

Scientists say that the current period of global warming is due to increased greenhouse gas concentrations, especially CO2 caused by burning fossil fuels. It can be mitigated by moving toward a Low Carbon Economy, an economy that relies more on alternative energy sources and less on combustion for energy generation.

Global warming feeds itself. Water vapor is the most important greenhouse gas. Without water vapor to help raise the average temperature the earth would be much colder, too cold to sustain life. But higher average temperatures caused by an increase of all greenhouse gases, particularly CO2, increase the evaporation of water. The evaporation increases the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere and creates a feedback loop of increased warming.

On the national and international level, policies to reduce the growth of CO2 emissions are in the works. On a personal level there are many ways for us to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce our contribution to global warming. They all start with reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

The recent Ecovacuum project conducted in Brussels has suggested new targets in energy saving that cleaner manufacturers will be expected to meet. However the Government have still failed to take an interest in a project that can save over 75 % of the power used by Vacuum Cleaners.
It is Air Recycling Technology and can make a 250 Watt cleaner work as efficiently as a 1,400 watt vacuum cleaner; this was the result of tests conducted for the Market Transformation Program.
Air Recycling Technology can save 1.5 Terawatt of electricity each year in the UK alone that is about £225,000,000 worth of electricity at 15p a unit and 650,000 Tons of CO2. Emissions Annually.
The total annual EU energy consumption of Vacuum Cleaners is estimated as 33.45 Twh. So by using air recycling technology ART, a saving of more than 25 Twh of electricity annually is possible in the EU. Equal to £3.25 billion pounds and 13.5 million tonnes of CO2.Emissions Annually.
You would think that a project of this value would at least get a good hearing. But I am sorry to tell you that although working prototypes exist and tests have been made the project is still gathering dust. It seems that everyone is shouting about saving energy but not prepared to lift a finger to help.
There is much truth in the saying "there are none so blind as those that do not want to see".
Air recycling can also remove the health hazard caused by the air that is normally blown from a VC disturbing allergens, causing them to become suspended in the air. With respiratory diseases on the increase this is another reason why the Government should investigate this cleaner and ensure it's manufactured.
This new approach to cleaner manufacture opens up the potential of an EU market in the floor care industry of over Four Billion Pounds annually.
But no one realy cares.
