Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)

Polyethylene terepthalate is a thermoplastic resin of the polyester family. Polyethylene terepthalate is also known as PET or PETE. The most common use of PET is in everyday products such as beverage and food containers. It's a material that is easily recycled and is identified by the number 1 in the resin identification code.

Consumers should note that although PET is a superb barrier against oxygen and carbon dioxide, in beverage container or microwave food tray form, it should be limited to a single use. Storing food or utilizing a PET product to prepare food is also inadvisable.
