Vegetarian

The strict definition of "vegetarian" is of a person who eats a diet that excludes all meat, fish, poultry, and related products. In reality there are a number of variations on vegetarianism that are worth mentioning, including veganism (does not eat or wear animals products at all, including dairy, honey, etc) lacto-ovo vegetarianism (those who eat eggs and dairy), or pescetarianism (a vegetarian who also eats fish) or many variations on those.

The basic vegetarian diet, one that focuses on plant foods and not the flesh of animals, is considered more environmentally gentle than a meat-based diet. Research supports the concern that the production of meat and animal products for mass consumption, especially through factory-farming, is environmentally unsustainable and otherwise harmful.  Animal agriculture is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases and produces 65 percent of human-related nitrous oxide and 37 percent of all human-induced methane.

People choose a vegetarian diet for a variety of reasons, including those of morality, religion, culture, ethics, aesthetics, environment, society, economy, politics, taste, or health.
