A wind turbine or wind power unit or wind generator is a rotating machine that converts the kinetic energy in wind to mechanical energy and again into electricity. Wind power accounts for approximately 1% of the total electricity used worldwide, but is a significant source of electricity in countries like Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and the Republic of Ireland.
Wind power is plentiful, renewable, clean, cheap, and widely distributed. It also reduces greenhouse gas emissions when it displaces electricity generated via fossil-fuel sources.
