The birds are doing it, feathering their nests, after a bit of tidying up! Spring cleaning is an end of winter ritual where we de-junk, open windows and clean, clean, clean!
The most important thing when tackling spring cleaning is to develop a strategy. Here’s mine:
1. Start from the top floor—I begin in our bedroom—and work down by picking up and putting away all of those things that we have been stepping over all winter.
2. I always wear an ear-loop breathing dust mask while cleaning; it saves me from developing cleaning-wheeze!
3. Using a soft napped dusting cloth—micro fiber—I dust all surfaces including lampshades, books, vases, pictures and bric-a-brac. I take down and shake or wash curtains at this time as well.
4. At this point I open the windows in the room I'm cleaning and vacuum under beds and dressers first. I then vacuum the balance of the room and ceiling corners (for cobwebs).
5. I wipe down my walls with a damp cloth—walls get very dusty!
6. Then I tackle the bathrooms by scrubbing everything and wiping down walls and windows. I use vinegar, baking soda and lemon as my cleaning agents for tub and toilets.
7. I save the kitchen until last because it is the most difficult room and by this time I have gained some real momentum. I clean and oil my cabinets outside and wipe down the shelves inside. The refrigerator gets scrubbed with lemon juice and I clean my sink with baking soda. This is the time I also clean under the kitchen sink, in that cabinet—you know the one—the ignored one.
8. Lastly I vacuum the basement stairs and then put my feet up for a well deserved rest!
Happy cleaning and I’ll see you out in the garden, over the fence!

i just started working on a bit of spring cleaning yesterday - using lemons and baking soda! i must say i am not as methodical as you are. i'm more of the "well, maybe i will clean this today" sort of gal. but you have some excellent strategies laid out here. perhaps if i did it a bit more systematically it would all get done.
then again, it is such a gorgeous day here i may just skip to the garden part. :)
