growing up in the hippie-dippiest neighborhood in portland, oregon, sarah was indoctrinated into recycling and solar power before she could ride a bicycle. as proof: her elementary school is now an "environmental school" complete with year-round veggie gardens and a community composting center.
after living on the east coast for many years, proudly recycling office paper as her chief "green" activity, she moved back to portland and slowly became a true environmental nut, complete with backyard veggie "farm," chickens, and a fleet of family bicycles replacing the (suv! shocking!) entirely. now she preaches local, sustainable eating, ferments all kinds of things, shops at co-ops and farmer's markets, brings her own containers to refill in the bulk section, tootles around on her mamabikeorama, and generally indoctrinates her three little boys into the ways of hippie-dippiness. she's come full circle. like a good environmentalist would.
