I am so not getting married. Been there. (No, I’m not bitter, thank you.) But if I WAS, I would totally be thinking about an eco-friendly wedding ring thing. Not that I knew these even existed before about a month ago when Gmail popped a nice advert into my email page, but there you go. Ah, the power of advertising!
But think about this: using recycled gold and gemstones like the selection at Green Karat eliminates mining activity needed to create your band of eternity. Mining = bad for the environment and bad for the people doing the mining (Black Lung, anyone?) Apparently there is already enough gold aboveground, mostly in the form of old jewelry, to satisfy all the needs of the jewelry industry for the next 50 years. So why not make your jewelry choices sustainable ones?
Another choice I never would have thought of is wood. And while you COULD whittle your own, I’d much rather have one of these gorgeous pieces from Touch Wood Rings. The wood comes largely from trees that have blown down or are killed by bugs, or scrap pieces donated by wood shops and factories. And hello, a ring uses only a fraction of an entire tree, so going wood is a wonderful choice in rings.
In fact, after looking at these awesome (and right affordable!) eco-friendly pieces, I’m starting to rethink the whole wedding thing. I could just have the ring, right? Or are there any takers out there? Anyone? Anyone?
