If you're in the market for fireproof and bulletproof construction materials, you now have another option: a Welsh company, Protomax Plastics, has developed a method for recycling plastic into Kevlar panels.
Would I feel safer in a bulletproof house? Possibly, since I live next door to a bounty hunter. Then again, he might get the urge to test the bulletproof-ness of our house, creating a ricochet problem.
Recycled plastic has long been used for protection, but mainly from the elements, not bullets. The Keep American Beautiful collected 189 million plastic bottles during its Great American Cleanup this past spring. The top schools who contributed to that recycling program received 25,000 fleece jackets collectively as a reward—made from recycled plastic.
Now imagine if I those two technologies could be combined. With bulletproof, fireproof, fleece jackets, would there be any need for armored houses?
