Supereco's at CES, aka the Consumer Electronics Show, and it's a glorious feast of green-tech gadgets. First on my list is to get a closer look at the world's first certified Carbonfree cellphone—Motorola's new MOTO W233 Renew cellphone, maving waves in the green-tech world with its 100% post-consumer recycled and end-of-life recyclable casing made entirely of old water bottles. It's about time tech manufacturers started thinking this way.
In addition, Motorola has teamed up with Carbonfund.org to offset emissions used to manufacture, distribute and operate the phone. The whole carbon-offset thing is a bit of greenwash, since there are many ways to calculate emissions and manufacturers tend to use figures that make them look good, but it's a step. Plus, your usage of the phone is calculated into the carbon offset, which is pretty cool.
In addition, the Renew comes in reduced packaging and a postage-paid envelope to use to send it for recycling when you trade it in for a newer model in a few years. I like this trend and can't wait to see more!
The Renew will be available later this quarter through T-Mobile, at a "reasonable" cost (whatever that means). More, please!
