Oh stop. You see where your mind goes? No, we mean what they're made of. Your underwear. Seriously; it's important. We care what you cover up with down there! So there's a new film out that takes a hard look at the lingerie industry (warning: not kid or work safe): Pants Exposed. Go on, take a look. We'll wait. You know you want to. But we should probably divulge that the film's lingerie models strip right on the runway rather than wear unethical, un-eco undies.
So what would make a model disrobe, removing the very clothes that are her bread and butter?
Pesticides. Genetically-modified crops. Polyester. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Leather (leather?). Acrylic. Silk. Cornstarch. Unfair trade. Much of the world's lingerie industry, not to mention the entire clothing industry, is built on the backs of pesticide-laden, petroleum-based textiles manufactured by low-paid, unfairly-treated workers.
Wouldn't your naughty bits feel better encased in something that not only feels good, but is kind to the earth as well? Organic and fair trade cotton. Wool. Hemp and hemp silk. Organic silk. Soy fabrics. Bamboo. Fair trade and fair wage with a conscience. These are the buzzwords that make me quiver inside. Don't they just sound sexy and comforting, all wrapped up together in one delicious package? Yum.
So now you know what to look for on your labels. There's more information about the practices of making all these fibers here. Oh, and don't forget the film.
