Great Backyard Bird Count starts today

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), February 13–16, 2009, is an annual four-day event sponsored jointly by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audobon Society. Bird watchers of all ages are encouraged to count birds in their local areas, creating a real-time picture of where bird species are located across North America.

Anyone—from novice bird watchers to experts—may participate. You can count for as long as you like, even for as little as 15 minutes on a single day of the event. (Hard core bird enthusiasts may spend the entire weekend counting!

A wonderful antidote to the Winter blahs, this is a great opportunity to slow down, take a look around (with kids, pets, and partners in tow) and see what's what in the bird world.

Still not sure how to get started? Check out our how-to.

And don't forget. The GBBC is a great opportunity to dust off your photography skills for Super Eco's photo contest this month.

I have always heard about this only when it was over and it was too late to participate. Glad to have an early heads-up this year!
