If you're anything like me, you spend a good 22 hours a day alone in your room, the curtains drawn to hide your pale face from a world that's forgotten you, the cell phone on your desk only vibrating when the entire room starts to spin from delirium and loneliness.....
I kid! If you do happen to spend an abundance of hours indoors during the winter, Wisebread has come up with six cheap and efficient ways to avoid cabin fever. Here are their tips:
- Open the blinds and allow some natural sunlight to peek through.
- Get outside for a jog or a walk, even if it's just for 30 minutes.
- Eat healthy. Consuming fruits and vegetables, even if they're not in season, can help boost your energy and your general mood.
- Volunteer and help the less fortunate. It will put your own life in perspective and help fight loneliness.
- Plan for the future by writing down what you want to accomplish in the coming months. Think of it as several mini-resolutions that you know you'll keep.
- Think happy thoughts. Things aren't as bad as they often seem and being positive and grateful can help inspire you to move your life in the right direction.
My favorite part of this post is that Wisebread does not encourage anything that takes more than a few hours worth of energy. I'm always disconcerted when DIY or environmental blogs say, "Hey, here's a great way to give back to your community: cover your dog in solar panels and save fuel by walking to the airport!" At least these few tips above are things you might actually have a chance of doing and feel good about in the process.
