Green jeans hit discount retailers

America is a discount shopping nation. Many of us realize the dangers of consumerism and many practices associated with mega-big business. Yet realistically, when it's time to lay down the cold, hard cash, we find ourselves at Wal-Mart or Kmart.

So when we see eco-friendly choices making it all the way down to the level of good ol' jeans from Wally World—ding! Progress! Apparently, based on test sales last year of organic jeans at both the Marts plus Macy's and Kohl's, Wal-Mart and Kmart have decided to offer even more organic jeans in their private label lines. Greensource, one of the largest suppliers of organic apparel cotton in the world, will be sourcing the cotton for men's, women's and children's jeans for Wal-Mart's Faded Glory label and Kmart's Route 66 brand.

Greensource's cotton is grown in accordance with organic standards according to the voluntary Global Organic Textile Standard. All five of the company's manufacturing facilities are GOTS-certified. We like the tracking number on every Greensource-made garment that lets you use Greensource's website to look up what field, spinning mill and factory your garment came from—accountability and consumer education in action.
