The Greener Gadgets Conference begins tomorrow in New York City. Produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), a group increasingly at the forefront of exposing eco to the tech industry, the conference is a gathering place for industry leaders interested in emerging technologies in alternative energy, e-waste recycling, and the future of green technology. Our sister site, Obsessable, will be there.
The conference itself is making strides in reducing waste produced by attendees, and to decrease the overall footprint of this year's gathering by going above and beyond the usual and customary badge recycling and use of recycled paper products (which they're also doing):
1. Food served is local and sustainable.
2. Conference presenters are encouraged to post all materials on-line
3. Any plastic products used are corn-based
4. Non-toxic hand soaps and recycled toilet paper available in all rest rooms
5. Food waste will be composted
There will come a time (hopefully soon) when all conferences will run in this fashion and such activities won't even merit a blip of news coverage. Until then, the CEA should be applauded for their efforts.
Perhaps we can use the Greener Gadgets Conference as inspiration to look for ways to decrease our paper waste and lower our footprint? To this end, have you entered our "go paperless" contest to win a scanner yet?
