Even if you're not the artsy-craftsy type, you can create chic artwork that's actually worthy of a spot in your home by upcycling old board games. I know, I know ... I'm not big on cutesy, handmade things around my house, either.
But board games are truly the stuff that pop art is made of. We're betting you can find a cool spot for some of these pieces (even the garage or the laundry room) or a little girl who'd be thrilled to wear the good ol' iron on a charm bracelet.
So if your favorite board game is missing too many pieces to be much fun, try turning it into a piece of pop art. We cruised Etsy, Planet Green and several other sites to round up some a few inspirational ideas.
- Wall art. It doesn't take much: hot glue a game board to a sturdy backing, add some game pieces and even money for a 3-D effect, slap a frame around it to lend added legitimacy.
- Coasters. Carve up old game boards and attach them to cork or wood backings to create coasters.
- Magnets. Same great concept. Same great results.
- Jewelry. Game pieces make cool charms for bracelets, necklaces, key chains ... even wine charms. Scrabble tile jewelry is especially hot right now.
Incidentally, have you seen how many great new board games for adults are out these days? It's a great excuse for a party. We're thinking some vegan hors d'oeuvres, drinks with some fresh mint from your windowsill garden, good friends, a lot of laughter ...
