Murphy beds make green sense

If you can't have a monument built for you or a mountain named after you, you can at least have a useful piece of furniture named after you. I bring you ... the Murphy bed. Clearly named for ME. As it should be. After all, who else do you think of when you fold furniture out of the wall and sleep on it? Wait. Don't answer that. Anyway, these days the Murphy bed is a green choice. Why?

Smaller footprint. Not only does a Murphy bed take up less space in your house, it lets you have a house that takes up less space. And a smaller house means less stuff and it means less to heat and just, well, less. And these days, less is more.

Green materials. Check out the FSC certified formaldehyde-free Murphy beds from Old Creek Wall Bed Factory. Or build your own.

Dual purpose. I love it when things have multiple purposes. Need a full time office but part time guest space? Add a Murphy bed and you won't need to reserve a designated room for that one week a year when the in-laws visit.

Handy for hiding things. Got any stray kids or pets? Just fold 'em up in the bed awhile.

Cool design. Yeah, so maybe this is the major appeal for me ... after all, what's cooler than pulling your bed down the from the wall? Unless it does this to you (beware of beds with lives of their own). But Murphy beds can be really stunning. Really, seriously stunning. With prices to match. Want to go extreme in the bed-hiding department? Have a look at this hanging bed-in-a-box.

I think I want one to hide in myself (instead of hiding the kids in it). Thanks for the info and the laughs. We had been thinking futon as a place of the in-laws to sleep, but building our own Murphy bed sounds even better!

I read this post about eco beds that goes to show we can sleep in our beds with peace.

How beautiful is that bedhead. I adore the principals of ornate decorating, particularly in a bohemian styled home. Oh I really do like this theme. It is stunning.
