Is the very food we eat making us sick? Mother of four and food allergy crusader Robyn O'Brien thinks so. In The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food is Making Us Sick—and What We Can Do About It, she lays bare the largely unregulated tie between Big Food and Big Money here in America. It's a shocking revelation—and one we think is so important that we're giving away three autographed copies to Super Eco readers.
A Houston native from a conservative family, this MBA and married mother of four was not someone who gave much thought to misguided government agencies and chemicals in our food—until the day her youngest daughter had a violent allergic reaction to eggs, and everything changed. O'Brien's research digs deep:
- What every American consumer needs to know about genetically modified foods (and what consumers around the world already know)
- The truth about so-called "government" and "university" studies on the effects of food production methods (largely unregulated studies that are often funded by the food industry itself)
- Substances (from artificial colorings to high fructose corn syrup) that are banned in Europe but rife in the American food supply
- Recipes and an action plan for weaning your family off dangerous chemicals one step at a time

ever since watching Supersize Me all those years ago, I'm pretty fascinated with this subject. I'd love a copy of this book.
My generation has had little education on "Healthy Eating". Now we find out what is really in the foods we eat and have fed our children for years and it is very disturbing. I am thankful for people like Robyn O'Brien, for the awareness and information provided in this book. I look forward to having it in my collection and sharing it's value with others.
There really needs to be more conversations about this topic. I'd love to see kids being educated and exposed to the right way of doing things. I love seeing my nieces instructing their parents on healthy eating and food purchasing. Even if my generation is lost, the next one can still be making healthy choices.
This sounds like a wonderful book!
I am a big believer that what we put into our bodies impacts us on so many levels. My son suffered from involuntary movements (eyes, arms, legs, abdomen) and we were told it could be Tourettes. We found a Chiropractor that suggested food allergies and took my son off Gluten, Dairy, Soy, Peantus and Eggs and within 2 days he showed signs of improvements and today has no twitches. In my heart I feel the main issue is Gluten and Soy and all the "junk" in processed foods....so my son mostly eats fresh fruits, veggies, lean proteins and nuts (not peanuts). I would love to read this book!!
would love a copy of this book.
This book sounds very informative.
I am passionate about healthy eating and making informed decision! I would LOVE to have a copy of this book so that I can continue to be educated myself and spread the word to others who unfortunately don't know any better.
This book is SOOOO needed! I would love to have a copy!
Thank you so much for doing this research and putting this much-needed information out there!
We need to combat the dangerous engineering of our food by corporations who do not have our best interests in mind. This sounds like a very informative book.
I'm very interested in reading this book. What a difference a healthy diet makes!
I've been making an effort to eat healthier foods for years now. I'd love a copy of this book. Thanks for the info.
This seems like a interesting topic! I'd love to read this
This book sounds wonderful! Good food is so important, and healthy eating habits are the foundation of a healthy life. I have a 15 month old and we are working to make healthier choices for ourself so that e will make healthier choices for himself later. I would love a copy of this book!
very intriguing...would love to read the book!
Can't wait to receive my copy of "The Unhealthy Truth"...thanks for doing this!
pick me pick me!!!!! PLEASE!!!!
I'm a little scared to read the contents of this book, but I do want to be educated on the issue.
Thank you for the opportunity.
Sounds like a fascinating read. I've been trying to make my diet more and more natural and unprocessed for years. I'd love to check this out!
This sounds like a great read. Would love to have it!
If people would "wake up" and start realizing that what they are eating is causing their health problems, we wouldn't need health insurance. This book looks sounds like it would help educate people, if only it was required reading. Thanks for helping educate America!
Yes! I love adding to my slim library for my own information, and to add weight to what I share with others. "I read it...somewhere...." doesn't add much validity to a statement! lol.
this sounds like such an awesome book. i have been really busy with school for the past few years & haven't had much time to read actual books (getting most of my information from the internet)- but this is the kind of book that i would definitely make time for. thanks for giving your readers a chance to win a copy, should be a very interesting read!
This is such a huge deal with us since seeing what these horrible things do to our kids bodies. We have two children with special needs and, through testing, have found disgusting things running through their little systems. I would love a copy of this book.
I can't wait to read this book! Why do we put up with this in our country?!?!
I realize that the contest is over, but I had to comment on this book. I checked it out of the library and was shocked at what I read! This is a must read for everyone! I have recently decided to try and consume "raw" foods and this book was the inspiration for my decision. I wish I had seen this prior to today, I would love to have my own copy of this book, but with recent lay offs, I am no longer employed. I will continue to use the library as a viable resource. BUT, read this book however you have to get a copy of it, it will shock you!
