I've always thought cardboard coffee cozies were for wimps. But soft, fuzzy Pepto pink cozies with smiling squirrels hand-stitched on them? They're too cute to pass up. Or are they?
I'm not sure what to make of Flapper Girl's crafty "java jackets." At least they're reusable and 99.9 percent eco-guilt free, and you can even accessorize with them (but then I'd have to make fun of you).
Question, cozy cuddlers: If what's in the cup cup doesn't burn your throat, how can it burn your fingers? And if it does singe your pampered paws, shouldn't the pain serve as a reminder that you should be sipping from a real coffee mug anyway, not a throw-away land-filler? Another one to add to the 3 billion Starbucks cups chucked in dumps every year.
... Or so I thought before climbing down off my high, highly-caffeinated horse. Truth time: I buy 7-Eleven sludge in paper cups at least once a week. Why just yesterday I fell hard for their new Domo cup, enough to sneak an extra one for the road. I upcycled into a snazzy pencil holder.
How about one of Flapper Girl's cozy felt skirts, Domo? Which design? Retro bike? Vintage cat eye glasses? Old-school telephone or-- sorry, I wasn't kidding -- a blushing squirrel?
Here's what designer Christine Blystone has to say about her palm-protective wares: "This cozy can be used again and again, and will help keep your hands cool while handling your favorite hot beverage. Small enough to slip into a purse or backpack pocket. Fits any standard size to-go cup."
Let's read that last sentence again. "Fits any standard size to-go cup." Why don't we slick a gas-guzzling Hummer in non-VOC emitting paint (hot pink?) and call it eco?
Sure, Blystone's coffee cozies are scald-proof adorable, but they won't keep your -- or my -- waste stream from getting burned and bigger.
On a greener note, check out Flapper Girl's elegant selection of delicately carved, "vintage inspired" cameo necklaces. They're made from a hard sustainable plastic called cellulose (a biodegradable biopolymer).

Coffee cozies are meant to be used year round. Hot drinks in the winter (to keep your hands cool), and iced drinks in the summer (to protect your hands from cold drips). This one in particular will set your drink apart from the rest! No more mistaken coffee drinking episodes where you've now contracted your co-workers' cold! Made of recycled wool sweater felt, you are being green coming and going with this cozy! This one has a fun color pop with shades of charcoal, gray, lavender, and purple. Topped with a silver sequin and iridescent lavender Czech glass bead, it is sure to be a conversation starter!! I have tried this because I celebrated when I received some debt relief.
Thank you, it's very awesome story about coffee cozy with a conscience it might be very hospitable for students.
