Catherine Élise "Cate" Blanchett was born on May 14th, 1969 to June and Robert "Bob" Blanchett. She attended Ivanhoe East Primary School in Melbourne before completing secondary education at Methodist Ladies' College, where she explored her passion for acting. She studied Economics and Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne. She attended the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1992 and beginning her career in the theatre.
Her gifted career spans the mediums of Television, Screen and Stage. Cate Blanchett has won both the Academy and Golden Globe Awards and is perhaps best known for her role as Elizabeth I, Queen of England in the 1998 movie Elizabeth. This role earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. In 2005, she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's film, The Aviator.
Cate Blanchett is married playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, whom she met in 1996. They were married on 29 December 1997, and have three sons, Dashiell John, Roman Robert and Ignatius Martin, they reside in Sidney Australia.

In 2007, Blanchett became the ambassador for the Australian Conservation Foundation's online campaign, Who On Earth Cares which endeavors to persuade Australians to express their concerns about climate change. She is also the Patron of the development charity SolarAid, which seeks to bring clean, renewable power to the poorest people in the world.
In her native Australia, Blanchett is very green conscious about how she lives and works. Not only is her home off-grid, powered entirely by solar panels but Ms. Blanchett who serves as co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company, plans to "greenovate" the Theatre Company's building with solar panels, rainwater collection systems to make it completely eco-friendly.
