Francine Joy “Fran” Drescher was born on September 30th,1957 in Flushing, New York. During her career as an actress Fran Drescher played roles in films such as Saturday Night Fever, Doctor Detroit, This is Spinal Tap. In the 90's she and then husband, Peter Marc Jacobson, created their own television sitcom. In "The Nanny" she portrayed the character of Nanny Fine.
A survivor of uterine cancer, Drescher chronicled her experiences in her book entitled: Cancer Schmancer. In 2007 she announced the national launch of the Cancer Schmancer Movement, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that all women's cancers be diagnosed while in stage–one while it is most curable. She has received many honors for her advocacy on behalf of cancer awareness, including the Gilda Award, the City of Hope Women of the Year Award. She successfully lobbied for the passage of Johanna’s Law, which promotes gynecological cancer education and awareness among women and healthcare providers. In 2008 Assistant Secretary of State Goli Ameri named Fran Drescher as Public Diplomacy Envoy for Women’s Health Issues.

In her role as President and visionary, for the Cancer Schmancer Movement and as envoy for Women's Health Issues, Fran campaigns to raise global awareness concerning the environment and conditions which contribute to rising cancer rates worldwide.
Fran Drescher speaks regularly, on behalf of women, to raise cancer awareness at events such as the free conference “Women’s Health and the Environment: New Science, New Solutions”
Fran Drescher is an active supporter of Bobby Kennedy Jr.’s Water Keepers Alliance, the NRDC and Stop Global Warming.
