Gisele Bündchen

Gisele Bündchen describes herself as persistent, if a bit impatient.  Her persistence has paid off. In 2007 Forbes magazine declared her the world's top earning super-model.

A southern Brazilian of German descent, Bündchen has five sisters. She is twenty-eight years old, single, and has a personal fortune estimated at over one hundred-fifty million dollars.  Bündchen has worked with many of the fashion industry's top photographers and her image has appeared on magazine covers over 500 tmes. She has been the leading model, the "face," of dozens of global brands and she has her own line of shoes called Ipanema Gisele Bündchen. Grendene, the largest manufacturer of sandals in the world and the company that provides Bundchen's Ipanema line of sandals, has joined her in contributing to the work of Forests of the Future.

In addition to her commercial efforts, Gisele Bündchen has a record of social and environmental activism. She actively supports improving HIV/AIDS treatment in Africa. She raises money to campaign against cancer, and has generously contributed money to Fome Zero, a program to eliminate hunger in Brazil.

Notable Eco Activity

Gisele Bündchen's main environmental activism focuses on protecting the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and Amazon Rainforest water sources.  Bündchen is also active in her support of Florestas do Futuro (Forests of the Future). She joined the Forests of the Future project for the reforestation of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. A new forest, named for Gisele Bündchen Sementes, started with 25,500 shoots of 100 different species, enough to revitalize an area of 15 hectares.

The Forests of the Future project was created in 2004 by an NGO named SOS Atlantic Forest. Since then about 1,133,000 trees have been planted in areas deemed critical for habitat preservation, expanding and connecting forest remnants in an effort to protect and restore th ebiodiversity of Brazils north-eastern forests.
