Orlando Bloom was born on January 13, 1977 in Canterbury, Kent, England, to Sonia Bloom, writer and businesswoman and Harry Bloom, Professor of Law and anti-apartheid Advocate. From an early age Orlando studied art and drama in school, first at the British American Drama Academy and then at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where in 1999 he was discovered by director Peter Jackson and was asked to audition for Lord Of The Rings. He won the role as Legolas in the movie Trilogy. Orlando Bloom is also famous for his role as Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

A budding Humanitarian, he took part in a UNICEF-supported visit to Nepal for a four-day journey to various programme sites in the western districts of Kaski and Chitwan. In Pokhara, Mr. Bloom mingled with over three dozen blind girls and boys. He also played a small role in a mini-drama the children were recording that day for the UNICEF-supported radio programme ‘Saathi Sanga Manka Kura’ (Chatting with My Best Friend).

He has brokered his fame and good fortune to support and promote environmental causes like Global Green, whose mission it is "to address some of the greatest challenges facing humanity. In the United States our work is primarily focused on stemming global climate change by creating green buildings and cities."

He is an avid supporter of Global Cool, which encourages people to turn off, turn down and re-think their world as a means of lowering their Carbon Footprint.

Also a supporter of the Climate Star Campaign, which is a print campaign that uses highly recognizable celebrities from the worlds of film, television, music, and sports to raise awareness about climate change, its consequences, and the ways individuals can make a difference.

About his new home in London, Orlando says: “It’s as green as I can make it. It’s got solar panels on the roof, energy efficient light bulbs - newer technology basically that is environmentally friendly. It might not be possible for everyone to live a completely green lifestyle, but we can do little things to help slow global warming.”
