Stella McCartney

Stella Nina McCartney--born 13 September 1971--is an English fashion designer. The daughter of former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and late photographer and animal rights activist, Linda McCartney. She became interested designing clothes at an early age. As a youth she interned for Christian Lacroix, working on his first fashion design collection while at the same time honing her skills on Savile Row. She then went on to study fashion design formally.

Studying fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in the early 1990s, Stella's graduation collection was modeled by supermodels Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon and Kate Moss.

She was appointed the Creative Director of Chloe in Paris in 1997. In 2001, Stella McCartney, in a joint venture with Gucci Group, launched her own fashion house and showed her first collection in Paris in 2001.

Notable Eco Activity

Following in her mother's footsteps Stella McCartney is a strict vegetarian who does not incorporate fur or leather into her designs. She is an avid supporter of PETA. Some of her designs actually have text that elaborates on her "no animal" policy, for instance the sleeve of a jacket she designed which bears the words "suitable for sporty vegetarians".

She is a supporter of many eco and humanitarian charities such as: Oceana, NRDC, Animal Aid and the Children's Action Network.
